The International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants is an international intergovernmental organization whose purpose is to ensure that the members of the Union recognize the achievements of plant breeders who develop new varieties of plants by granting them intellectual property rights based on a set of clearly defined principles. Headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland). The mission of the organization is to provide and promote an effective plant variety protection system in order to encourage the development of new plant varieties for the benefit of society. Become a member of UPOV, the state declares its intention to protect the rights of breeders based on principles that have received international recognition and support. It provides national breeders with the opportunity to obtain legal protection in the territory of other members and encourages foreign breeders to invest in plant breeding and seed production. In addition, membership in UPOV gives the state the opportunity to share its own experience and use the experience of other members, as well as to contribute to the development of world breeding work.
