Registration of foreign citizens

Immigrants enter the Republic of Kazakhstan and leave the Republic of Kazakhstan through checkpoints on the State border of the Republic of Kazakhstan, open for international and passenger traffic, using passports or substitute documents if there are visas of the Republic of Kazakhstan, unless otherwise specified by legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan and / or international treaties ratified by the Republic of Kazakhstan.

From January 11, 2020, foreign citizens are exempted from registration with the internal affairs bodies for up to 30 days. Moreover, the period of temporary stay in the Republic of Kazakhstan may not exceed 30 calendar days from the date of crossing the state border, for a total of 90 calendar days during each period of 180 calendar days.

When a foreign citizen stays in Kazakhstan for a period of more than 30 days, the receiving party is obliged to issue a temporary residence permit to the guest. At the same time, a foreign citizen himself does not apply for permission. All responsibility for informing about the arrival, stay and registration of a temporary residence permit of a foreigner rests with the individuals and legal entities that receive them.


Receiving persons are required to inform (notify) the migration service about the foreigners staying with them within 3 working days from the date of their arrival.

The notification procedure can be issued through the visa and migration portal www.vmp.gov.kz VMP provides an opportunity for hotels and places of temporary visit of foreigners to send notifications about temporary stay of foreigners to the migration service units at the address of their location.

In the absence of notification, the receiving party will be brought to administrative responsibility under article 518 of the Code of Administrative offences (failure to timely inform internal Affairs agencies about them staying foreigners).

The Citizens Of The Commonwealth Of Australia, The United States Of America, The Republic Of Austria, Kingdom Of Belgium, Republic Of Bulgaria, The United Arab Emirates, Federal Republic Of Germany, Hellenic Republic, Kingdom Denmark, New Zealand, Japan, Israel, The Republic Of Ireland, Republic Iceland, Kingdom Spain, The Italian Republic, Canada, Republic Of Cyprus, The Republic Of Korea, Republic Of Latvia, The Republic Of Lithuania, The Grand Duchy Of Luxembourg, Hungary, Malaysia, Republic Of Malta, The United States Of Mexico, Principality Of Monaco, Kingdom Of The Netherlands, The Kingdom of Norway, the Republic of Poland, the Portuguese Republic, Romania, the Republic of Singapore, the Slovak Republic, the Republic of Slovenia, the Republic of Turkey, the United Kingdom of great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Republic of Croatia, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Chile, the Swiss Confederation, the Kingdom of Sweden and the Republic of Estonia enter and leave the Republic of Kazakhstan without a visa, if the period of their stay in the Republic of Kazakhstan does not exceed thirty calendar days from the moment of crossing the State border of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The internal Affairs bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, when applying for an extension of stay in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan for more than thirty calendar days for business purposes by citizens of the States specified in the paragraph above, issue single-entry visas of the "business" category for a period of up to thirty calendar days.

The internal Affairs bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, if there is a request from the authorized investment authority confirming the investor status of citizens of the States mentioned above, issue single-entry visas of the "investor" category for a period of up to ninety calendar days.»


Loss of passport

In case of loss of the passport, the immigrant immediately applies to the internal Affairs authorities at the place of permanent residence or temporary stay with a statement detailing when, where and under what circumstances the loss of documents occurred. On the basis of the application of an immigrant registered in accordance with the established rules and whose identity has been established, the migration police Department issues him a certificate issued to foreigners regarding the loss of their passports or documents replacing them.

On the basis of the issued certificate, the foreigner receives a new passport or a document replacing it at the consular offices of his / her country, in which the internal Affairs Agency issues an exit visa.
